HS code for LED lamps
An LED lamp can mean two things: a light source, such as an LED bulb, module or strip (heading 8539), or a light fitting with LEDs (heading 9405). For a light fitting the code depends on its kind (for the ceiling or wall, the table or floor, a Christmas tree, solar or other) and on whether it works with LED light sources only; the 8 digits add what it is made of.

LED strips: the EU classifies LED tape lights (LEDs on a flexible printed circuit, in sections that can be linked) as LED modules, 8539 51 00, following the WCO's classification opinion 8539.51/1. In 2025 the Commission repealed the 2013 regulation that had put an LED strip in 9405 (Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/289).
Light strings: 9405 31 and 9405 39 are for strings made mainly to light a Christmas tree, as their length, lights, spacing and bulb shapes show. Strings for decorating all year round (houses, balconies, gardens, tables, wreaths), strings of pumpkins or hearts, LED curtain lights and micro LED chains on a wire are other electric luminaires, 9405 41 to 49 (explanatory notes to the CN, OJ C 233, 16.6.2022).
Not shown: 9405 50, for luminaires that are not electric, such as candle lanterns; 9405 61 and 9405 69, for illuminated signs and nameplates; 9405 91, 9405 92 and 9405 99, for parts.
The €3 customs duty per item
Since 1 July 2026 the EU charges €3 customs duty per item in a parcel worth up to €150. Goods with the same tariff code are one item.
How many digits of the code count depends on the declaration: 6 on H7, 8 on H6, and 10 on a full H1 declaration, where origin and description also separate items.
Check the code before you file it
This page shows the lines of the tariff and what leads to each. It is not a ruling: a binding one, called a BTI, comes only from a customs authority. Compare the official text with your product, and look the code up in the EU's TARIC database. You are responsible for the code on your declaration.
